Am I responsible for compensating for “Loss of time” due to an at fault accident?
2 months ago, I had an accident with a Lincoln town car in New York. I was at fault and my insurance paid the that guy for the damages caused by the accident to his car. Now I have received a letter saying that I’m summoned to appear in the Civil Court and file my answers since the guy wants 4500$ because of “Loss of Time for Work”. It seems he is claiming against me since he has not been able to work because his car had been being repaired for some days or he has been busy with taking care of the stuff related to the accident. Am I really responsible for that??!!! The car was a commercial car and he had a passenger heading JFK. I live in Florida and I need to take a trip to NY just because of this!!
Of course you are. Your actions caused him to lose work and therefore income. If the tables were turned you certainly would be looking for compensation. Contact your insurance company, that is what you pay them for.
